Why These Tools
Most alarms are set by counting hours, not cycles. Sleep Cycle Calculator — Bedtime & Alarm counts cycles instead: tell it when you have to get up, or when the lights go out, and it lists the times that end on a full cycle of about 90 minutes, after allowing for the minutes it takes to drift off. With a 6:30 AM alarm and 15 minutes to fall asleep, 9:15 PM and 10:45 PM are the two bedtimes that give an adult between 7 and 9 hours.
Every option is checked against the nightly hours the National Sleep Foundation recommends for four age groups, from 9 to 11 hours for school-age children down to 7 to 8 after 65. This page will grow into a small toolkit for rest and recovery. A sleep debt tracker, a chronotype quiz and a jet lag planner are the next tools queued for it.
