Thirst is a late signal. By the time you feel it, fluid balance is already tipping. Daily Water Intake Calculator works out your personal target before that happens — entering your weight and a few context choices gives you a concrete number in mL, litres, fluid ounces or cups, along with a per-hour pacing figure for the day.

The lead sample is a 75 kg male with moderate activity in a temperate climate: 35 mL/kg gives a 2,625 mL base, the EFSA male reference value of 2,500 mL is lower so the body-weight figure is used, and the moderate activity adjustment adds 500 mL for a total of 3,125 mL — 3.1 L, or roughly 13 glasses. In a hot climate the same person reaches 3,625 mL.

How to Use This Calculator

  1. Enter your body weight and choose kg or lbs.
  2. Select Biological Sex — male uses the EFSA 2,500 mL baseline, female uses 2,000 mL.
  3. Pick an Activity Level. Each chip shows how many mL it adds. Sedentary adds nothing; very active adds 1,000 mL.
  4. Choose a Climate chip. Hot climates add 500 mL; very hot or high-altitude adds 750 mL.
  5. The Show as toggle switches the headline between mL, L, fl oz and cups without recalculating. A non-obvious feature: the breakdown table always shows both base methods so you can see which one governs your result.

The Formula Behind the Result

Two independent bases are computed: the body-weight method (35 mL per kg, the most widely cited clinical rule) and the EFSA 2010 adequate intake figure (2,500 mL for men, 2,000 mL for women). The tool takes whichever is higher, so a 55 kg woman gets the EFSA floor of 2,000 mL rather than the 1,925 mL the formula alone would give. Activity and climate adders are summed on top. Output rounds to the nearest whole millilitre.

Precision and What This Does Not Cover

The 35 mL/kg method is a population average. Individual needs shift with medical conditions, pregnancy, breastfeeding, high-altitude adaptation and high dietary fibre intake. The calculator caps input at 500 kg; below 10 kg the validation message reads "Weight must be between 10 kg and 500 kg."Food contributes roughly 20% of total fluid intake for most adults — this tool estimates drinking water only.
