A screenshot of an error message, a photographed notice, a scanned letter: the words are right there, and you cannot select them. This tool reads them with optical character recognition running inside your browser tab, so the image is never sent to a server.

Nothing to hand? Try a sample image draws a paragraph in your chosen language, in English starting “The finance team met with Dr. Alvarez before the 9 a.m. review.”, and reads it back.

How to Use the Language Buttons and Extract Button

  1. Press Open image, drop a file, or copy a screenshot and press Ctrl+V anywhere on the page.
  2. Choose the language of the text. Up to 3 can be on at once, for a page that mixes, say, Bangla and English.
  3. Press Extract text. The first run in each language downloads the reading engine and that language’s data, so it takes longer; later runs in the same session are quicker.
  4. Correct anything in the box, then press Copy text or Download .txt.

Join wrapped lines is worth a click on anything from a book or a column: it turns the page’s line breaks back into flowing paragraphs and mends words hyphenated across two lines.

Accuracy: What Reads Well and What Does Not

Printed text on a clean background does best: the built-in samples read at above 90% confidence in English, Bangla and Arabic. Sharp screenshots are close behind, and images under 1,000 pixels wide are enlarged up to 3 times first, which helps small type. Handwriting, decorative fonts, text on busy photos and tilted pages all lower the score. The percentage is the engine’s own confidence, not a guarantee, and under 60% the tool warns you to check the result. For faint scans or light text on a dark background, tick High contrast, which converts the image to pure black on white using Otsu’s threshold before reading.

What Happens When the Text Is Not Found

If nothing comes back the tool says “No text found. Try the high-contrast option, a sharper image, or the right language.” The wrong language is the usual cause: the English model does not know Bangla letters, and will guess or return nothing. Chinese here means Simplified, and the spaces the engine puts between Chinese and Japanese characters are removed. Images over 4,000 pixels on the long side are scaled down for reading. One privacy note: the program and language files come from public CDNs, but your image is processed in this tab and is not saved or uploaded.
