A Kanban board is a to-do list turned sideways: each card is a piece of work, each column is a stage it passes through, and you can see at a glance where things are piling up. This Kanban Board runs in the page with no account. Cards drag between columns, and the whole board is saved in your browser, so it is still there when you come back tomorrow.

How to Use the Sample Launch Board

  1. The board opens on a product launch with four columns, To Do, In Progress, Review and Done, and 10 cards. The summary reads 2 of 10 cards done · 20%.
  2. In Progress shows 4/3 in red, because it holds four cards against a limit of three. Move “Fix signup bug” to Review and both columns are back within their limits.
  3. Type in the box at the bottom of any column and press Enter to add a card, at the priority picked above the board. Click a card to edit it, and click its priority tag to cycle low, medium and high.
  4. Press Copy as Markdown to paste the board into a ticket, a chat or a README as one checklist per column, with the last column ticked.

Why WIP Limits Matter on a Board

A work-in-progress limit caps how many cards a column may hold. It sounds like bureaucracy, but it is the part of Kanban that actually speeds things up: starting a sixth task feels productive while finishing the first five is what ships. Little’s law puts it plainly. The average time a card spends on the board equals the cards in progress divided by how many you finish per day, so with 10 open cards and 2 finished a day, a new card waits about 5 days; cut the open cards to 4 and it waits about 2. Set a limit of 0 or leave it blank for no limit. A limit must be a whole number up to 99; anything else stops with “WIP limit must be a whole number from 0 (no limit) to 99.”

Edge Cases: Phones, Deleted Columns, Storage

Drag and drop needs a mouse. Phones and tablets do not send drag events to web pages, so every card also has arrow buttons to move it left, right, up or down. Deleting a column never deletes its cards: they move into the column on its left, or the next one along if it was the first. A board holds up to 6 columns and 150 cards, with card titles of up to 200 characters.

Everything stays in this browser’s local storage, which means no sync between devices and no sharing with a team. Clearing site data wipes the board, so copy it as Markdown first if it matters.
