Hindi uses the Devanagari script. The shirorekha headline bar connects letters at the top of each character cluster, vowel matras sit above, below, or beside the base consonant, and conjunct consonants stack vertically. These properties cannot be replicated by Latin placeholder copy, which is why Hindi filler is the only meaningful stand-in for Hindi layouts.

The pool draws from common Hindi vocabulary. Output randomises sentence length between 5 and 12 words and paragraph length between 3 and 6 sentences, producing blocks that vary the way real prose does.

Getting Started With Hindi Placeholder Text

  1. Select Paragraphs for body copy mocks, or Words with count set to 8 for navigation label testing.
  2. Press Generate to fill the output panel, then Copy to paste into your design tool.
  3. Press Generate again for a fresh draw from the same pool.

What Each Devanagari Feature Tests in Your Layout

  • The shirorekha bar sits above every character. Line-height below 1.5 clips it, revealing a font-rendering or CSS gap that real content would have hit in production.
  • Noto Sans Devanagari and Poppins with a Devanagari subset are the two most reliable choices across major browsers.
  • Hindi text typically runs 10 to 15 percent longer than English. A navigation label that fits at 160px in English may overflow at the same width in Hindi.

Edge Cases to Check Before Sign-Off

  • Fixed-height text boxes in Figma and Adobe XD silently clip Devanagari descenders. Set boxes to auto-height, then lock after testing.
  • Bare system fonts may not cover the full Unicode Devanagari block (U+0900 to U+097F). Generate 1 paragraph and check every glyph renders before presenting the mockup.
  • CJK and Devanagari filler both expose line-height gaps, but only Devanagari reveals shirorekha-specific clipping. Test each script separately when building multilingual layouts.
