Density is a ratio, and the denominator is where keyword tools quietly disagree with each other. The Keyword Density Checker divides each word's count by the total word count of your text, stop words included, which is the convention every piece of SEO guidance is written against. Divide by the filtered pool instead, as an earlier build of this tool did, and every figure inflates once ordinary grammar accounts for a third of the page.

Paste a draft into Paste Your Content and the leading 20 keywords appear as a ranked stack of bars. Each row carries the word, a bar, a raw count such as 9×, and the density to two decimal places. The bar is scaled against the most frequent term rather than against 100%, so its length tells you about distribution while the percentage tells you about weight.

Words under three letters and 60 common stop words are dropped before ranking, and hyphenated compounds are split first, so content-marketing-strategy is measured as three separate keywords. The count recomputes as you type, against text that never leaves the page.

A Real Example: Auditing a Product Page

Paste a 1,200-word product page and the top row might read pricing at 18× and 1.50%, which is simply 18 ÷ 1200. The second row reads plan at 11× and 0.92%. Two terms above 1% on a page that is meant to rank for one of them is the signal worth acting on; the absolute numbers matter far less than the gap between rows one and two.

Precision and Limits of the Count

  • Density is rounded to two decimals, so a word appearing once in a 9,000-word document shows 0.01% and anything rarer flattens to 0%.
  • Only 20 rows render. A page carrying 400 distinct content words still shows 20, and the 21st is not drawn at all.
  • Every character outside a-z is stripped before counting, which removes digits and accented letters alike. café is tallied as caf.
  • Matching is exact after lowercasing, with no stemmer, so run, runs and running occupy three separate rows.
  • Text that survives no filter at all returns No significant keywords found. Try adding more content. rather than an empty chart.
